Bart-Jan has been working in IT his entire career, but the interest began much earlier. When the first computer was bought at home in 1993, his curiosity was immediately piqued. What can you do with such a device? How does it work? And how can you write your own programs? From that moment on, he delved deeper and deeper. What began as an interest grew into a profession. He took an IT course, worked at various IT organizations and has been part of the I4YOU team for ten years now.
Smart solutions for the customer
What really gets Bart-Jan excited? When he builds something that makes a difference for the customer. A solution that is not only technically sound, but also really helps in daily practice. One that makes the user’s work easier or makes a process run smarter. That is where he gets his pleasure. He likes to dive deep into a technical issue: how exactly does something work, what’s behind it, and how can you make it smarter or more efficient? It is precisely that research, the puzzling until everything is right, that he finds interesting. That curiosity combined with a keen eye for usability makes him a valuable force in any project.
Keep looking critically
IT is a world of buzzwords. Every few months a new technology seems to start changing the future. But according to Bart-Jan, much of it disappears as quickly as it emerges. A lot gets hyped, but a year later you don’t hear anything more about it. Too bad, because that sometimes distracts attention from the really valuable innovations. He likes to stay informed, but doesn’t just get carried away. Instead of running after every trend, he prefers to ask himself: what really works, what is sustainable, and what takes us forward?
Sparring keeps you sharp
When Bart-Jan gets stuck on something, he likes to spar with one of his colleagues. “While I’m explaining it, often the penny drops.” With his head full of knowledge and a keen eye for detail, he helps colleagues along. Always with the goal of creating better solutions together, often with an unexpected pun in between.
A team that strengthens each other
I4-YOU is a small, close-knit team with short lines of communication, where people complement each other. Everyone brings something different to the table. That makes it fun and effective. We really make an impact together. And that togetherness is important to him. Bart-Jan is not someone who likes to be in the foreground, but rather someone who makes his contribution based on content and commitment. Colleagues do not call him an indispensable link for nothing: critical when necessary, always willing to think along and share his knowledge.
His motto? If someone else can do it, then surely I must be able to do it too. A statement that fits him perfectly. Bart-Jan believes that you can achieve a lot with perseverance and eagerness to learn. Rather find out than assume, rather try than give up. And all this together makes him a silent force within our team.
